Maintaining your WordPress website is critical. Your website helps you meet your mission, so it’s important to keep it healthy and functioning.
One important yet often neglected aspect of maintenance is keeping the software up to date. If you have a self-hosted WordPress site, then you need to keep any plugins you’re using up to date as well as WordPress itself.
Keeping it up to date can get complicated. I wish it were just as easy as clicking the “update now” button and having everything simply continue working. It doesn’t always work that way, though. Sometimes a page on your website breaks, or even your entire website. Sometimes plugins conflict with each other.
Other times, there’s a plugin that hasn’t been updated in over a year. WordPress itself is updated every 3-4 months, and if the plugin isn’t up to date enough to meet the current version’s coding standards, then things can break.
WordPress is not free
Just because you don’t pay a fee for a WordPress software license doesn’t mean it’s free. It requires maintenance, for the reasons outlined above and because you should also regularly back up your website and do security scans to make sure it’s not infected.
So, this maintenance will either cost you time or money. You can certainly do it yourself, or you can pay someone else to do it.
If you wish to pay someone else to do it, then I’m your man.
WordPress maintenance services for nonprofit organizations
I have a passion for nonprofits after having worked in the sector for over a decade. I offer one-off support and monthly maintenance packages. No contracts, no commitments. I simply want to take care of the stuff that you don’t want to deal with so that you can do what you do best: make a difference in this world.
The lowest monthly maintenance package comes with one hour of support tasks. This can include simply spending time looking at your website and making recommendations on how to improve it, including plugin recommendations or ways to manage your content. I live and breathe WordPress every day, and I’m happy to pass along my knowledge to you so that it helps you.
You know how important your website is to meeting your mission. It allows you to collect donations online, recruit volunteers, and ultimately serve your constituents. Making sure it’s healthy and online is incredibly important. Regular maintenance helps make this happen.
